Monte Christo
Tasting Room
Jean Désiré Féraud was the first to produce wine in the South Island, and his historic schist building has been carefully restored to now become the Monte Christo tasting room.
The building had numerous alterations over the years that were not in keeping with the original building, we opted to strip the building back to its original stone work. We’ve added new reclaimed hardwood trusses and sarking, along with galvanised roofing that has been acid washed to dull it’s appearance. A lean to extension has been added to the east which takes it’s proportion from a previous lean to that was demolished. Extensive under pinning of the existing stonework has been completed and a coloured concrete floor added.
